Palliative Sedation

This presentation is about palliative sedation as it relates to end-of-life care, respite care, and pain management. It includes discussion on implied bias from the patient, family, and healthcare provider about pain and the management of pain and when to consider palliative sedation as it pertains to terminal illness or respite therapy for intractable symptoms.   

At the end of this presentation, the participant will:

►Describe the multiple aspects and implications of suffering.

►Discuss the process of determining when Palliative Sedation is needed for control of suffering and symptoms.

►Discuss the logistics of administering Palliative Sedation, including nursing implications and pharmaceutical agents utilized.

►Anticipate ethical concerns and challenges related to Palliative Sedation.
